• The Energy Transformation

    We are experiencing an unprecedented transition in the way electricity is supplied and used. More households and small businesses than ever are installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to take control of their electricity production. In fact, over a quarter of Western Australian households have already installed a solar PV system. At the same time, large-scale renewable generators are supplying an increasing amount of our electricity needs.

    On 6 March 2019, the Minister for Energy Hon Bill Johnston MLA announced two major initiatives to help Western Australia respond to the energy transformation underway and plan for the future:  

    • a Whole of System plan to help coordinate the planning and development of our power system in the south west of the state; and
    • a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Roadmap, a plan to integrate DER, such as solar PV and battery systems, into our power system in a safe and secure way.
