Entrants for the 2018 Schools Economics Competition were asked to prepare a 2,000 word essay addressing the following question:
What do you consider to be the main problems or issues facing the Australian and Western Australian economies? What policy, or combination of policies, do you believe would be most successful in solving the problems or issues you have identified?
Entries for the competition closed on Friday 29 June 2018 with the top three entrants invited to give a short presentation on their submissions to the judging panel and key Treasury officials at a finals day event, held at the Department of Treasury on 23 August 2018.
Finalists were assessed on their submitted entries in conjunction with the presentation provided to the judges on the finals day. The judging panel, consisted of Lisa Di Paolo, Manager, Infrastructure and Finance, Treasury, and Greg Parry and Steven Kemp from the Economic Teachers Association of Western Australia.
