What really attracted me to the Treasury Graduate Program was when I was a work experience student at the Department of Treasury during my last year of uni. I really enjoyed the work I was involved in, it was meaningful and I felt like I was making a difference.

Treasury was also the most relevant government agency where I could apply my degree (Economic and Finance majors) as Treasury is the only agency that provides economic services and advice, as well as high level state finance and accounting.

From my experience at Treasury I found there is freedom to work independently and ‘own’ the project as well as working as a team. There is a lot of support provided by supervisors and fellow team members.

During my time at Treasury, I assisted in the procurement planning for the Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison, managed six government enterprises through the 2011-12 Mid Year Review and undertook research on alternative funding mechanisms for public transport.

I enhanced and developed many skills through the graduate program from both the training provided and hands on experience; this included financial analysis skills, writing skills, oral communication skills, stakeholder management, time management, problem solving, government policies and procedures.

I enjoyed my time during the Treasury Graduate Program. I appreciate the opportunity to be involved in challenging projects and the work environment is great as everyone is willing to help and support you.

I really enjoyed the Graduate Program it provided me with the most diverse and interesting job I have undertaken thus far. Being exposed to the complete job role so early on in your graduate year encourages you to learn quickly.

One task I really enjoyed was acting as Policy Analyst during the Budget process, assessing business cases and making recommendations in regards to funding.

The guidance and support from the supervisor and buddy system we received was invaluable. There was never a question that was too difficult or too silly.

There were also many personal benefits, as I have a young child the flexi-time was a huge advantage. The friends I have made are also an unexpected bonus.
