• 2017-18 Annual Report on State Finances

The 2017-18 Annual Report on State Finances (ARSF) was released by the Treasurer today, and details the major variations between the forecasts contained in the original 2017-18 State Budget (released 7 September 2017), the estimated outturn detailed in the recent 2018-19 Budget (handed down on 10 May 2018), and the final outcomes recorded for the year ending 30 June 2018.

    • A general government sector operating deficit of $618 million was recorded for 2017-18 less than half the $1.3 billion deficit estimated in the recent Budget.
    • This reflects higher than estimated revenue (up $458 million) and lower than estimated expenses (down $251 million).
    • General government expense growth in 2017-18 was 1.9% – the lowest rate of expense growth in Western Australia since 1994-95.
    • Total public sector net debt at 30 June 2018 was $34.6 billion, $1.3 billion lower than estimated in the 2018-19 Budget.
