A Dispatch Support Services contract between the Australian Energy Market Operator and Synergy in relation to Synergy’s Mungarra and West Kalgoorlie gas turbine facilities was to expire on 1 July 2018.
The contract has been extended to 30 September 2018 to allow time for development of alternative arrangements to mitigate potential adverse impacts to the continuity of power supplies in the North Country and Eastern Goldfields regions of Western Power’s network. These arrangements involve the use of Network Control Services contracts that will require associated changes to the Electricity Industry (Network Quality and Reliability of Supply) Code 2005.
The Public Utilities Office has released an Information Paper outlining the alternative arrangements. The paper is available below and includes an invitation for stakeholder submissions as to any drafting errors on the proposed amendments to the Electricity Industry (Network Quality and Reliability of Supply) Code 2005 required as part of the solution. Submissions are invited by 10 September 2018.
The Code amendments are expected to be finalised and made by the Minister for Energy before 1 October 2018.
