The Public Utilities Office provides a range of services on energy matters to the Minister for Energy, the Western Australian Government, the energy sector and the Western Australian community.
The Public Utilities Office commenced operations on 1 April 2012, following a decision by the Western Australian Government to consolidate and further develop the essential services policy capacity of Government.
Initially with responsibility for energy policy, the Public Utilities Office will, through economies of scale, provide a focused service for Government and enhance an industry wide perspective.
Amongst other functions, the Public Utilities Office supports the performance of the statutory functions of the Coordinator of Energy (Energy Coordination Act 1994).
The Coordinator of Energy, Public Utilities Office has been prescribed as the Hazard Management Agency for disruptions to gas, liquid fuel and electricity supply in Western Australia.
